Day Three: Las Vegas, New Mexico

We took one of our first weekend trips to this historic railroad town during college. Chris taught me to play chess here and started writing this Western-flavored, supernatural-tinged short story, probably my favorite to this day.

We loved Las Vegas then and still do. What it lacks in slot machines it more than makes up for in Oscar cool, having served as the location where the majority of No Country for Old Men was shot. The Plaza Hotel, where we once stayed, figures largely in the movie, and the nice front desk employee let us walk on the famous stairs where Javier Bardem corners Woody Harrelson. You remember the scene.

In fact, the employee said fans come in every day asking about No Country (no small feat as Las Vegas isn't exactly on the beaten path), and some teens recently stopped by to reenact parts of the movie, costumes and all. I love people.
